The Homicide Files

A proposed series of novellas depicting individual cases set prior to the events of A Dream of Death and its sequels.

Maintaining the ‘police procedural’ style of mystery writing, each case would depict the investigation of a single homicide. The novellas would feature less in the way of character development and would be akin to a ‘murder of the week’ style of writing, such as watching an episode of CSI or Bones.

  1. Man, you are much more prolific than I am. Impressive. And I agree coteelmply about the novella. It’s an almost impossible length to get published traditionally, especially if you don’t have any skins on the wall. Unfortunately it’s also a length that I naturally write at. That’s one of the great things about e-readers and the e-book. More and more people are experimenting with the form and finding it to their liking. And I say that for both readers and writers.

    • Thanks… but my ‘prolificness’ has dropped off lately. Novellas are definitely a nice length to work with, and there are stories that can’t be told any other way. I have trouble with the very lengthy, which I’ll have to work past with an epic sci-fi/fantasy series brewing in my head… it seems you need to write 1200 page installments in that genre.

Good luck with your own writing,

  2. Just finished reading “A Dream of Death” and loved it! I’ve already downloaded the next book in the series & looking forward to more in this series. Great story, very interesting characters, surprise ending and all this was free!

    • Sheila,

I feel awful for having missed your comment so long ago!

Thank you so much for your comment and I hope that you liked Blue Rubicon as much as you did A Dream of Death!

  3. Glad to hear that you liked it! If you feel guilty about it having been free, I’ll take a round-trip ticket to Barbados if it will make you feel better. 😉

Full Fathom Five, the first installment of The Homicide Files will be out likely the second week of October, so stay tuned for release information.

    Nice to hear from you!

  4. First time to your site and what great timing! I JUST read “Full Fathom Five”! It was great and I really liked the novella length. You really packed a lot of punch into it! Sincerely, your newest of many fans!

    • Thanks! The novella length is nice to write as well. I find I can pack that punch in, especially in stories where the characters are already established. When I wrote the novellas I sort of set out with the idea of a TV episode in mind, like watching a single episode of CSI or Law and Order.

And welcome to the fan club! 😉
